About Lab

생체모방재료 및 줄기세포 공학 연구실(Biomimetic Materials & Stem Cell Engineering Lab.)은 생명공학을 기반으로, 재료공학, 생화학, 세포생물학 등의 지식을 접목시켜 조직공학(tissue engineering)에 적용하기 위한 연구를 진행하고 있다. 조직공학은 생명과학과 의학 및 공학이 연계된 융합분야로, 조직이나 장기의 치료제 및 대체재의 수요가 급증함에 따라 그 중요성이 부각되고 있는 분야이다.
본 연구진은 다양한 생체모방재료를 이용하여 조직공학에 필요한 비바이러스성 전달체 제작, 손상된 장기 혹은 조직 복원을 위한 지지체(Scaffold) 제작, 혈관 재생을 위한 약물 전달 시스템 개발 및 세포 표면 개질을 통한 세포 이식 효율성 증대에 관한 다양한 연구를 진행하고 있다. 이를 통해 생체모방재료 및 줄기세포를 이용한 조직 재생, 질병치료기술을 개발함으로써 차세대 바이오-헬스케어산업의 발전에 기여함을 목적으로 한다.

The overall goal of BMSCE laboratory is combine engineering principles and basic science with developmental biology to understand mechanisms of tissue regeneration in novel biomaterial systems.
Biomaterial scaffold may provide a vehicle to differentiate stem cells by controlled exposure to proteins, adhesion peptides, and growth factors in a three-dimensional matrix.
Our laboratory is currently working toward the fabrication of bio-synthetic microenvironments conducive to stem cell differentiation by manipulating scaffold properties and incorporating the desired biological signals.

Tissue engineering
Various strategies have been explored to overcome critically sized tissue defects via tissue engineering approaches that incorporate cells, bioactive molecules, and biomimetic scaffolds. We have developed various methods for fabricating 3D porous structures using Innovative techniques, such as 3D printing methods, for optimal host stem cell infiltration, vascularization, nutrient transfer, and stem cell differentiation. Our lab is continuously researching new ways to rebuild damaged tissue
